The errors of Jehovah´s Witnesses

The booklet mentioned in the footnote starts calling Jehovah' s Witnesses “friends”, for one thing is the error and other one the person who gets wrong, for by reproving the error  one loves  the person, which one would like to see free of error, which can damage him so hard, that he looses happiness not only in this world but in th other one.

The sect named “Jehova’s Witnesses” does very  intensive advertising  and uses to send two persons to visit each house, in order to win proselytes by giving them some magazines.

Jesus Christ’s divinity

Although they don’t  think so. this sect isn’t a Christian sect proper, for it doesn’t accept Jesus Christ is God.: for them Jesus is just a creature. In order to demonstrate it, they have altered the Scriptures.  And in his Bible, in Jn 1, 1, instead “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word (the Word of the Father) was with God, And THE WORD WAS GOD… And the Word was made flesh”, as it  really is, they say: “and the word wasagod, inventing the article, in order that it doesn’t say that the Word was God and, besides, they write God in small letter, meaning that he is a created God, a creature -they believe that God created “gods”. In fact, this heresy, to refuse the divinity of Jesus Christ is very old and the Nicea Council (4th century) already condemned Arius’ heresy which denied Jesus Christ’s divinity, and proclaimed that “the Son of God is born from the Father before all the centuries, God from God, light from light, true God from true God”. Furthermore, in the Bible it is clear that Jesus Christ is God: In Saint John 5, 18:

“This, then, is why the Jews were the more anxious to put him to death, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but also called God his own father, making himself equal to God”.And in Saint Matthew 26, 63-66, when Caifas, the Jew Pontiff, is searching reasons  to condemn Jesus, we can read: “But Jesus kept silence. And the high priest said to him,“I adjure thee by the living God that thou tell us whether thou art the Christ, the Son of God”. Jesus said to him: “Thou hast said it. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you shall see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power and coming upon the clouds of heaven”.Then the high priest tore his garments, saying, “He has blasphemed; what further need have we of witnesses? Behold, now you have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?” And they answered and said: “He is liable to death”.

Here, it is clear that Jesus really answers that he is Son of God and how the Pontiff says that he has blasphemed, because, being he only a man, as the high priest thinks, he makes himself equal to God. Certainly, in other passages Jesus says of Himself:“I and the Father are the same thing” or “He who sees me, sees also the Father”. (Saint John 14, 9-11)

(Jehova’s Witnesses’ translation is intentionally altered; we shall refer to the manipulation of the Bible they do, altering and adding passages to sustain their asserts and contradicting the most serious and trust worthiest versions of the Holy Bible by Catholics or Protestants – Evangelical ones plainly speak about a Bible’s manipulation by  Jehova’s Witnesses).

In case we find in the Gospels some paragraphs in which Jesus Christ seems to say that he is lower than the Father is because he is speaking then as man he is and, as man, he worships and is subordinated to the Father, obeying Him until the death on cross, being his condition of man  which makes him possible to make himself deserving to obtain the redemption for all men who wish receive it. Jehova’s Witnesses also adduce that, in some passages of the New Testament, Jesus Christ is called“every creature’s first-born”and, therefore, they deduce that Jesus Christ is a creature: in Colossians 1, 15, referring to the Son of God, we can read:“he is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature”But to understand this passage, we only need to read further (Colossians 1, 16-18):“ For in him were created all things visible and things invisible, whether Thrones or Dominations, or Principalities, or Powers. All things have been created through  and unto him and he is before  all creatures, and in him all things hold together”. If all things were createdbyHim, that means that He is God and we state that he is firstborn in the sense that He is before everything. We can also find another sense for “firstborn”. We call firstborn the first of several brothers; the Son of God, becoming man, is also our brother, brother of men and He is the first of the brothers sons of God, because he is Son of God from the eternity (engendered-only-begotten (Saint John 1, 18) not created by the Father).

Besides, He is firstborn of all the brothers in the sense that He is the first in honour and authority; therefore we debt Him, who, besides man, is God and has given us the possibility of eternal life, all honour, obedience and glory.

We can also say he is firstborn in the sense that He is the first one to have been born from a spiritually inviolate womb, what means born from a woman without sin, not even the original sin, as son of  Mary Immaculate and from a materially inviolate womb, because His mother was the Blessed Virgin Mary, a virgin who conceived by the action of the Holy Spirit[33].

We also read in the Bible, that“He is the firstborn among deads”  (Apocalypse, 1, 5th vers., see also 1Cor, 15,20) and not because he has been the first one to die, but the first one to resurrect, for, as true man he was, besides God, he died for us and resurrected.

The Holy Spirit is person and God.

In the same way, Jehova’s Witnesses do not believe either  that the Holy Spirit is God,  not either a person, but they see him as a “force”. Yet in the Bible there is said that to lie the Holy Spirit is  to lie God (Acts 5, 3-4), therefore, the Holy Spirit is God. And He is a person, because  He has  features of person as “to bear witness”, “to teach”, “to speak” (Saint John 14, 26):“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your mind whatever I have said to you”.

Nobody can teach if he is no intelligent and nobody can be intelligent if he is not a person. Let’s see also Saint John 16, 13-15: “But when he, the Spirit of Truth, has come, he will teach you all the truth. For he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he will hear he will speak, and the things that are to come he will declare to you”. Nobody can hear and speak if he is not a person.

The mystery of the Holy Trinity

Therefore they deny the mystery of the Holy Trinity, an only God and three different persons. See Saint Matt.3, 16-17; 28, 19, 20: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and  of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. If the Father and the Son are divine persons, then the Holy Spirit, who in the text appears as an equal, must also be a divine person. See also 2Cor, 13, 13.

Other errors

Other serious errors of Jehova’s Witnesses are that  they deny soul’s immortality, that hell is eternal, that the body of Jesus Christ resurrected, that  the blessed Virgin Mary is God’s mother and she rested Virgin, that one can venerate Blessed Virgin Mary and the saints.

The prohibition of blood transfusions

One of the most well known errors of Jehova’s Witnesses is  that they don’t see as permissible blood transfusions, not even when patient’s life is in danger.  In the little book, where we have taken the most information about the matter (see Introduction’s footnote), we can read: “If Jesus Christ gave his life, his blood for all of us  an teaches to sacrifice ourselves each other how would  be judged a Religion which forbids to save the mother’s, brother’s or the neighbour’s life by giving them part of our blood, which could help to save them? (see Saint John 15, 13; 1 Saint John 3, 16)”.

The prohibition of military service

Another well known error of Jehova’s Witnesses is that they forbid to his followers to participate in the military service, as it would be a bad thing in itself. But in Saint Luke 3, 14 (Saint John Baptist  is who speaks) we can read:“And soldiers also asked him saying, “And we- what are we to do?” And he said to  them, “Plunder no one, accuse no one falsely, and be content with your pay”. Therefore, he didn’t say to them that they left  the military service.

The number of saved persons

Furthermore, Jehova’s Witnesses sustain that only 144.000 souls will be saved in heaven, being based on the text of Apocalypse 7, 4, where we can read: “And I heard the number of those who were sealed was 144.000”. Nevertheless, the literally reading would say that those 144.000 are the saved souls,  coming from Israel. Furthermore, number 144.000 (12 x 12 x 1000) is a symbolic  figure which has not to be seen literally

In order to verify it, let’s see what there is said in the same chapter of  Apocalypse (Ap. 7, 9): “After that I saw a great multitude which no man could count number, out  of all nations and tribes and people and tongue standing before the Throne  and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes and with palms in their hands”. The saved are a multitude, which cannot be counted. (As Jehova’s Witnesses are more then  1 million in the whole world, according with what they believe, not all of them would reach Heaven, for the difference  of 144.000 from 1 million is quite a lot. To this question they answer that  they will attain happiness in another kind of paradise, even if it is not heaven.

It is necessary to keep the Ten Commandments in order to be saved

A very serious error of Jehova’s Witnesses  is that they  deny one has to follow the Ten Commandments in order to be saved. In contrast we can read in Saint Matthew 19, 17-18, the answer which Jesus gives to the rich young man who has asked him what to do in order to be saved:“…But if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments”. He said to him, “Which?” And Jesus said, Thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt  not bear false witness, honour thy father and thy mother, thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself”. And in Saint Matthew 5, 17, Jesus says that“he has not come to destroy but to fulfil the Law”.That means that the Ten Commandments are still in force in order to get saved, although some secondary aspects don’t prevail anymore, as not to eat pork, for instance,  for Jesus Christ proclaimed that all foods were pure (Mc 7, 14-19; 1Tim, 4, 4-5 and Acts 10, 5-16) or  sacrifices of the Old Testament -sacrifices of animals- which were replaced by the new sacrifice of the Pure Host of the immolated Christ for the salvation of all men. To those outmoded aspects of the Old Law refers Saint Paul, when  he says that Law is abolished (Ef. 2, 15-18), for Saint Paul himself declares in other passages that the Ten Commandments are still in force:  So he praises gentiles who, following his reason and his sense of moral keep such commandments  and criticizes them who, bragging of  Law, don't  follow it . (Romans 2, 13-15)::

“For it is not they who hear the Law that are just in the sight of God, but it is they who hollow the Law that will be justified. When the gentiles who have no law do by nature what the Law prescribes, these having no law  are a law unto themselves. They show the work of the Law written in their hearts. Their conscience bears  witness to them  …”

(if precepts of Law, the commandments, are written in their hearts, they cannot be abolished but are in force, for man can never act against his consciousness).

On the other hand, we can also ratify in the writings of Saint Paul that those who  do not fulfil the actions required by the Ten Commandments will not be saved. In Galatians 5, 16-21, we can read:“ Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh…But if you  are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are immorality, uncleanness, licentiousness, idolatry, witchcrafts, enmities, contentions, jealousies, anger, quarrels, factions, parties, envies, murders, drunkenness, carousing and suchlike. And  concerning this, I warn you, as I have warned you, that they  who do such things will not attain the  Kingdom of God”.

(here the Apostle directly alludes  to the 1st  commandment “You wilst love God over all the things and you shalst worship only God”, to the 6th commandment “Thou wilst not commit immorality”, to the 5th commandment  “Thou wilst not kill”, and indirectly  to the rest of commandments, by saying “suchlike”.

The sentence “ If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law” must not be understood as if those who are led by the Spirit don’t must keep the Ten Commandments, because he says that  they who don’t keep them, who fornicate or kill will nor attain the Kingdom of God, but  in the sense that  these  who are led by the Spirit, who is Spirit of Love, love God and the neighbour, where all the Law is condensed (the Ten Commandments are a law of love), keeping therefore the  Ten Commandments not by fear but by love (Who loves doesn’t kill  nor commits adultery). (And also in the sense that those who are born by the Holy Spirit are not obliged by the non essential parts of the Law and the rites and prescriptions of the Old Testament).

False prophecies

A typical error of Jehova’s Witnesses is to propagate the false prophecy of the end of the world, by giving even a concrete date. “for this year will come the end of the world”. As the date doesn’t fall true, they change the year. Thus, at first, the end of the world had to come in 1914. Obviously they missed. But then they started to say that the end would happen the autumn of 1975 (see his magazine “Despertad” , 22 April 1972, Pgs 3 and 26; “Atalaya”, Band of 1979, Pgs, 207-209, etc.).

They have also made other false prophecies about the arrival of the Kingdom of God and about the arrival of the terrestrial Paradise which was announced for 1914 and as then it happened nothing was postposed for  1975.  It was not accomplished. What can we say about such false prophecies? We can answer with word of the Bible, even in the version of Jehova's Witnesses themselves, which in this point is not altered (in the Catholic Bible, Deuteronomium 18, 21,22):

“If you say to yourselves, “How can we recognize an oracle which Jehova (Yaveh) has spoken? Know that, even though a prophet speaks in the name of Jehova, if his oracle is not fulfilled or verified, it is an oracle which the Lord did not speak. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously, and you shall have no fear of him”.

The manipulation of the Bible by Jehova’s  Witnesses

The last passage has been taken from the Bible of Jehova's Witnesses, who instead Yaveh, use Jehová, but, here, it doesn’t matter, for everybody understands the term “Jehová” and in the rest, there is said the same as in Catholic Bibles. But certainly it does matter in other passages, where Jehova’s Witnesses alter or add  what  a correct translation of the Bible says. Let’s give some examples of such manipulation.

Referring to the Eucharist[34]  Mt. 26, 26, Jehova’s Witnesses translate: “ This MEANS my body”…

Just slyness or ignorance are able to make a so bad translation, because the original in Greek literally says: “ This IS my body”, “this IS my blood”. Why do you put “means” or “represents” instead “IS”? Because you cannot  accept (so told me a Jehova's Witness) that through the consecration  the bread becomes the body of Jesus Christ;  but, dear friends, Jesus Christ himself said it and Saint Paul recognizes it when he says:“Whoever eats this bread  or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily, will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord…. For he who eats and drinks unworthily, without distinguishing the body, eats and drinks judgement to himself”(1 Cor.11, 27-29).

It is not permissible to change “IS” for “MEANS”, if Jesus Christ has said  that this is his Body, who will contradict it?

There are many other errors in the Bible of Jehova's Witnesses besides the above mentioned and the already mentioned  about changing “THE WORD WAS GOD” for “and the word  wasagod”, a falsification of the Bible in order to deny Jesus Christ’s divinity.

[The protestants themselves (not to confuse with Jehova’s Witnesses, given they believe the same as catholics, referring to the mystery of the Holy Trinity, the divinity of Jesus Christ, hell, soul’s immortality, etc, on the contrary of Jehova’s Witnesses), protestants, then, assure that the Bible of  Jehova's Witnesses is manipulated ]

The Bible warns us that these who falsify God's word will have terrible punishments: So, referring to people who falsify the Apocalypse (we can extend  it for the manipulation of other parts of the Bible), we  can read in Apocalypse 22, 18-19:

“I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book. If anyone shall add to them, God will add onto him the plagues that are written in this book. And if anyone shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his portion from the tree of life, and from the holy city, and from the things that are written in this book”.

That refers certainly to those who conscientiously and having been warned, falsify the word of God, not to those who are deceived in his ignorance.

Errors, false prophecies, manipulation of the Bible, inhuman  attitudes in some aspects as the prohibition of blood transfusions, even in case is in danger the life, etc. convert  Jehova’s Witnesses in a very dangerous sect.

My friend, if you are bona fide Jehova’s Witness meditate on it and ask yourself if perhaps are you in hands of “unlearned and inconstant people who distort, just as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction” (2 Saint Peter 3, 16). If you are beset by  Jehova’s Witnesses and his bigot proselytism’s labour, here have you some help not to be deceived and not to have to abjure of your Catholic faith, which means universal and apostolical, who has her origin in Saint Peter, Saint Paul and in the rest of Apostles and which is the true religion founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ.
